Good morning, lovely dreamers and welcome to another geek lifestyle, self-improvement blog post here on Dreaming of Butterflies!

Today, we’re keeping up with the Star Wars Celebrations, and because we’re sooo excited about the release of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ later this month, we had to try and find what are some important life lessons we’ve learned throughout the years from the Star Wars movies.

Of course, I, being a big Star Wars fan since forever, could not resist the temptation to geek out and explain what I’ve learned from them and why you should watch Star Wars as soon as possible (if you never did).

You may not think that movies like this, science-fiction, the first being a 40-year-old movie, filled with droids, The Force, Jedi, Sith, rebels, and all sorts of creatures from around the universe, can really be life-changing and educational.

The fun fact is George Lucas, the genius behind the story and all this fun madness that came after all these years, actually said that he intended the movie for 12-year-olds. The reason is, I think, the story and the many life lessons anyone can learn from them.

You know the awesome warm feeling that you get when the movie starts, and you hear that music, aw man! I love that feeling.  So let’s dive in, and see what you can learn from one of the best movie series of all time.

P.S. Careful for spoilers, if you haven’t seen it. Also, if you haven’t what are you waiting for? Look at this gorgeous DVD collection that has EVERYTHING you need!

But enough with the chit-chatting! Let’s get to it!

20 awesome life lessons you learn from Star Wars

1. Don’t let fear control you

via GIPHY

“Fear is the path to the dark side.” – Yoda, The Phantom Menace

Fear is like a poison in your mind, and the idea is to fight it and resist it. You should not let yourself be caged by fear because it will slowly destroy everything dear to you. Your confidence, your attitude and then your personal life can change for the worst, just because of fear.

Didn’t you ever want something but were too afraid to go after it? What happened next? You ended up in regret. That leads to sadness and depression. Our own real-life “dark side”. Not a fancy place to be.

2. Let go of doubt

via GIPHY

“I find your lack of faith disturbing.” – Darth Vader, A New Hope

I love this quote, it’s actually one of my favourites. When you are confident in yourself, there will always be someone who will try to “cut your wings” and make you feel less than you are, and can become.

Never listen to that voice of doubt. The fact that someone did not see the solution to a problem like you have and therefore questions it, should strengthen you, not break you.

3. Don’t be a cocky ass

“There’s always a bigger fish.” – Qui-Gon Jinn – The Phantom Menace

I like to interpret this as follows: You are not the best, the most perfect, the most incredible human being. Be humble, there’s always a bigger fish than you that can eat you alive, and you will not like it if it does.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

via GIPHY

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.” – Princess Leia, A New Hope

Sometimes you can’t do everything on your own, no matter how skilled and smart you are. At least once in a while, life will throw things at you that you can’t do alone and you should ask for help and guidance. No one will blame you for that.

Even our beloved Princess Leia needed help, as tough as she was!

5. Glass half full

via GIPHY

“One thing’s for sure, we’re all going to be a lot thinner.” – Han Solo – A New Hope

This funny comment is one of my dearest because it shows that even in the most difficult times in our lives, it’s okay to laugh and be positive.

You have to see the good part because there always is one.

6. Confidence is the key

via GIPHY

“The force is strong with this one.” – Darth Vader – A New Hope

When you are strong and confident, it shows. People notice these things from the moment you enter a room. Didn’t you ever see someone just enter a room and everything just lights up around them? Then you notice how everyone treats that person. They are drawn to that person.

Be that person.

7. Trust yourself

“Remember…the Force will be with you, always.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi – A New Hope

Even in your darkest times, you need to trust yourself. The Force is your inner strength. This quote just reminds us that it will be there, always. All we have to do is search for it.

Embrace it.

8. Dealing with the death of someone dear

“Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force.” Yoda – Revenge of the Sith

I absolutely love Yoda and, to this day, I think this is one of his best quotes, especially now, as young adults, when our grandparents get older and eventually, unfortunately, pass away.

This teaches us that grief is unnecessary. Our loved ones don’t leave us, not really. They only transform from their physical form. Their spirit will live on forever, in a better place, so we should be happy about that.

9. You build your own life

via GIPHY

“Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon Jinn, The Phantom Menace

It’s the same as “life is what you make of it”. If you are focused on creating a better future for yourself, it will get better. It’s all about how you want things to be and what you do about it.

10. Dealing with excuses

“Try not. Do—or do not. There is no try.”— Yoda, The Empire Strikes Back

Another one of the best Yoda quotes out there in the universe. This one basically says: You need to stop making excuses, get off your ass and do whatever it is that you must do. Stop procrastinating.

I should have this on my wall again as I used to when I was working at a multinational (Soul sucking job, but what can you do? The bills need to be paid). It is that quote that always made me push through every task, no matter how hard it got.

11. What are the chances?

via GIPHY

“Never tell me the odds.”— Han Solo, The Empire Strikes Back

Sometimes, you just don’t need to know the odds. In life, there will always be someone to tell you how low your chances for success will be. They will not tell you this because they want to “burst your bubble”, sometimes they will do this unintentionally.

But like Han, sometimes, you have to risk it, no matter how low your chances are, even if they are as low as 3720 to 1! Who knows, you might win!

12. Some roads are dangerous

via GIPHY

“Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.”—Yoda, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Of course, it’s all about the path of life. It’s easy to fall into the “dark side”, the way filled with bad influences, bad actions, and heavy repercussions.

It is tempting, it sounds like the fun, easy way out, sometimes. Like, for example: “Why work for money, when you can rob someone or even a bank?”. You know where this is going, don’t you?

13. Dark Side Domino

Yoda was right.

“Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.”—Yoda, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

This is one domino you don’t want to start. Never underestimate what you can do, if you face your fear. If you let it win, the suffering you will bring to the ones around you is immense, but what you will experience is far worse than anything.

14. Love is the key

via GIPHY

“Let go of your hate.”—Luke Skywalker, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

The longer you hold onto a grudge, the hole inside you will get bigger. Just let go of all that resentment and be free. Free yourself, and open yourself up to love.

15. Have some faith

“Close your eyes. Feel it. The light…it’s always been there. It will guide you.” – Maz Kanata, The Force Awakens

This is a little bit biblical, and even though I am not a religious type myself, that doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in anything.

You must believe in the power of attraction. You will reach good things if you let yourself see them.

16. Take action!

“Somebody has to save our skins.” – Princess Leia, A New Hope

In a difficult situation, don’t just sit there and wait for someone to come and rescue you. You might be the only one who knows how to get you out of a bad situation.

Don’t always wait for help. Analyse, think, take notes, and find solutions.

17. Don’t count on luck

“In my experience, there is no such thing as luck.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi, A New Hope

You can’t just sit there and do nothing and hope that everything will be okay. Real life doesn’t work like that. You need to put your mind and body to work if you want to achieve anything good.

It’s like wanting to win a lot of money in the lottery, but you never even buy the ticket. Work, work, work for what you want.

18. Trust your instinct

via GIPHY

“It’s a trap!” – Admiral Ackbar, Return of the Jedi.

Sometimes, you just need to trust your instinct and hope that is not too late. When you feel that you are in bad company, or a person is not reliable, just distance yourself.

I really listen to my instinct before making a big change, and so far, it never failed me.

19. Keep your feet on the ground

“Great, kid. Don’t get cocky.” – Han Solo, A New Hope

It’s okay to be enthusiastic about your accomplishments, and it’s okay to want to celebrate and to “have your moment”, but don’t go over the edge. Don’t expect people to build you a statue for every good thing you do.

Always keep your feet on the ground and be humble.

20. Don’t lie (especially to the woman in your life)

via GIPHY

“Women Always Figure Out The Truth. Always.” – Han Solo, The Force Awakens

The truth always comes out, no matter how hard you try to hide it. Be careful, especially if you try to cover something up that you don’t want HER to find it. She will, and in the end, the only one that will suffer is you.

No matter how hard the truth is, you need to admit it.

Aaaaaaand that’s all for today, lovely dreamers! We hope you enjoyed our top pics for today’s Star Wars life lessons, and if you did, please make sure to share it, pin it, tweet it! We know that the Force is strong in you!
