Updated 12/02/2021.
Good morning, lovely dreamers, and welcome to another money related blog post. Today we're tackling the ongoing trouble of any young adult - how to make more money using existing skills.
There are tons of ways to make some extra money, but I made a shortlist with what I found that works. In my struggle of accommodating to living in Spain, for example, I learned how to make those extra euros that we needed to have a normal life.
And now that we've done a full circle with our travels and are in back in Transylvania for a while, even if our living costs are lower, we're still in need of more than just one income stream.
Yes, we're debt-free now, but as life progresses, we need to save more, in planning for the future.

But enough with the chit-chatting! Let's get to it!
How to make more money using your existing skills
Part 1: OFFLINE - A.K.A. In the real world outside your door :)
1. Photograph events
You really don't need a super-fancy camera to do this, just some basic photography skills, a decent camera and to be a very open person.
As a freelance photographer, that gives me the advantage of using my skills to make me some cash, while I enjoy a show at a pub, for example. Not so much nowadays, it's true, but there are still other events to tap into: intimate weddings, baby photos, couple's engagements...
How much to charge? Depends on the skill level, how well you can negotiate and the person that needs you, I guess.
In my first years as a photographer I did most of my work for free, I just wanted to learn. Now, I charge somewhere between 20 to 30 euros per hour at an event.
2. Shop for your neighbours and friends
This is a great way to make some extra cash while you shop for you as well. If you have a car it's even better. Easier and cheaper for you, therefore extra money in your pocket.
How much to charge? Anywhere between 15 to 30 euros per shopping trip ( + cab charge), depending on the size and number of bags, is a good way to start - if you're doing this independently.
I mean, this is the foundation of FoodPanda, Glovo, and who knows how many other delivery apps out there that exploded since home deliveries became a thing - but a little birdie told me that getting a job for them is unbelievably hard.
3. Clean houses
If you are good at cleaning and know how to make it fast and easy, why not get some money out of that? Quality services like these are hard to find
Some people also pay big money for that kind of services. Just know who you are talking to and charge according to the job.
4. Babysit
If you like kids, this is an amazing way for you to make some money.
Even though some of the moms are staying at home moms, they also need some time off and space to be women and wives, not just mothers, so offer to babysit whenever needed.
Baby practice for you, freedom for them.
5. Sell your stuff
Every time I clean I find things I don't really need anymore.
Seriously, even in my wardrobe I keep finding clothes I don't wear anymore - sometimes they don't fit, others, I'm just tired of them. So, I decided to sell some of my unwanted stuff.
eBay is a good place to start if you don't have very much to get rid of.
Part 2: ONLINE - a.k.a. The place where everything is possible
6. Open an Etsy shop online
If you are a crafty, creative person, you can try to sell what you make on Etsy.
It's true, they charge a bit for your sale and you have to be the one in charge of boxing and shipping, but it's a great way for you as an independent artist to start making some money using your skills and getting your name out there.
Instagram and Pinterest are filled with amazing artists with Etsy shops if you know where to look! Check out our Pinterest group board for some amazing examples.
7. Sell your skills online
Are you a designer of some sorts? Or a writer/copywriter? Maybe you love to read and correct stuff? Whatever your skill set might look like, there's a definite need for it.
Make sure to keep a look on sites like Upwork, Freelancer, WeWorkRemotely, RemoteOK and so on.
Because of the whole Covid-19 madness, the word has a greater need now for online work than ever before, so there's definitely a spot for you.
8. Start your own online business
Starting your own business is quite the challenge, I'm not going to lie. BUT nothing is as rewarding as working for yourself and knowing that you somehow helped make someone's life better by helping them in some way.
If you feel that you are underappreciated at work, or that you have a simple job, but your passion lies elsewhere, I'm here to tell you to take the leap! Don't waste your time and your skills working somewhere you know in your gut you don't belong.
Yes, it's scary! And it's crazy. But in the end it will be worth it.
You can even get your family involved in your new business. You see, Andy and I started shifting our attention in the past couple of years. Now I am a freelance web-designer and developer, and he's studying for his dream of becoming a game designer + developer.
If we can do it, trust me, so can you.
9. Get paid for browsing online
I know this sounds made up, but here me out. If you're from the UK, you'll love this.
There this thing called Gener8. It's a Google Chrome extension that helps you earn from the ADS displayed on the websites that you browse on a day-to-day basis.
You get rewarded with Gener8 points that you can later use to get major discounts in the Marketplace, and you can even donate some of them to causes like Cancer Research UK.
10. Start a blog
To be frank, I never ever thought that someone could make money just by having a blog online. My fiance Andy still thinks it's unreal, even though we are making money blogging, but that's just because he's very sceptical in general.
Why start a blog? If you have a passion for something or want to share some knowledge with the world, just do it! You have nothing to lose and so much to gain.
